Cognitive Function Therapy

Cognitive-communication impairments are disorders that negatively impact a person’s cognitive functions such as memory, attention, and problem solving. Injuries such as traumatic brain injury and stroke are common sources of cognitive communication difficulty. Other diagnoses associated with cognitive communication impairment are Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, and mild cognitive impairment (MCI). Speech language pathologists can assist with the management of cognitive communication impairment through thorough evaluation of a person’s cognitive strengths and weaknesses and training in techniques to adapt and manage deficits.
